New service blends mobile phone with safeguarding

Guardian Mobile, based in Branstone, is pioneering a new approach to personal safety with its all-in-one mobile solution.

Merging a specially-designed phone and interface with state-of-the-art emergency support, the service offers Islanders an easy-to-use mobile phone and other equipment with built-in mobile connectivity. As well as being used as a mobile phone, the system provides 24/7 access to an UK-based emergency response team, ‘Guardian Response’.

Launched on the Island ahead of a national roll-out, the service aims to support independent living for older residents and others who may need a little extra help.

Unlike traditional telecare systems, which rely heavily on landlines, Guardian Mobile’s mobile-based solution ensures assistance is always available – even outside the home. BT’s transition to full-fibre broadband means many existing systems may soon need costly upgrades. Guardian’s approach eliminates depending on landlines or additional home equipment, providing peace of mind with minimal set-up and much lower costs than some other systems available locally.

Head of corporate communications, Sandra Knowles, explained: “Our mission is to provide people with the confidence to live independently. With just one easy-to-use device and the press of a button, help is immediately accessible wherever you are.”

The innovative system is particularly well-suited for the Island, where one in five of the population is over 70 – well above the national average of 14 per cent. Guardian Mobile’s commitment to empowering older adults and their families offers a solution tailored specifically to our older residents. They even set up the equipment for you free of charge.
