New children’s home approved

A new children’s care home was approved for a property in Adelaide Grove in East Cowes, to address local and national shortages of residential facilities.

The Isle of Wight Council’s planning committee voted unanimously on Tuesday to grant permission for a change of use, subject to conditions. The plans were called in by local councillor, Karl Love, after a number of objections were submitted.

Officers had recommended conditional approval and councillors accepted that the project is in line with government and council aims to replace large institutional care with smaller, family-oriented environments to improve outcomes for children in crisis. There will be a maximum of four children in the home.

While East Cowes Town Council objected due to concerns regarding fire safety, building regulations, and potential parking shortages, the committee dismissed these issues.
