Mothering Sunday service is inclusive of all

On Mothering Sunday, Shanklin United Reformed Church held their monthly cafê-style service with free drinks, sandwiches and cakes.

People sat around tables at which they filled in quizzes and coloured cut-outs, symbolising those within God’s family. A mother thanked those who had prayed for her family over the past few weeks. Her child, who had been seriously ill, was happily joining in with all that was going on.

In his message, Pastor Brian said: “The church of Jesus Christ is God’s family, and we can all be part of it. I find it truly amazing that I meet people across the world from different cultures, backgrounds and languages, yet there is a common bond because of our faith in Jesus.

“For those who live on their own, being part of such a spiritual family is of huge importance. None of us should feel isolated for we are united in Jesus, our big brother. And do let’s be sensitive today, and look out for those who find this time painful because of bereavement or fractured relationships. We need to be there for one another, and be a true family to those who really need support or a shoulder to cry on.”

The children then gave out bunches of flowers to the congregation – which includes people from the West Indies, Africa, France, Ukraine and Russia, as well as Islanders and Overners.
