Sandown’s Christ Church hosted a seasonal carol concert with Sandown & Shanklin Military Band, with the packed congregation singing along to a medley of carols and festive songs, following a successful evening at St Paul’s in Shanklin.
Rev Mark Williams thanked his team volunteers for providing mince pies and refreshments. He said: “They went down well with the programme of the conductor, David Plummer, and the band. Their playing raised the roof!”
Music enjoyed included White Christmas, Chestnuts Roasting, O Come All Ye Faithful, When a Child is Born and a special medley of festive songs in an hour-long set. Younger members of the audience also played a part, including Layla, who took a turn conducting the band.
The church is holding a Nativity Service tomorrow (Saturday) from 4pm, and a Christmas Day service at 10.30am. Philippa Hanna will perform an acoustic set as part of her Stained Glass Stories Tour on Friday, February 9 from 7.30pm.
