A new multi‑million‑pound McDonald’s ‘drive‑thru’ restaurant has moved a step closer to opening, on Newport Road, in Lake, after County Hall formally approved the fast‑food giant’s planning application. The scheme includes parking, landscaping and associated works, and follows last July’s planning committee vote in favour, citing economic benefits and Bay area regeneration.
A legal agreement has now been published, requiring a biodiversity contribution from the developer. McDonald’s agent, Planware, says the project will create over 120 jobs and meet strong customer demand.
The approval goes against an earlier officer recommendation to refuse the scheme on health, location, and environmental grounds. The consent carries 24 conditions covering planning policy, environmental protection, highway safety, heritage, and residential amenity.
