A workshop was organised by the Island’s popular marching bands at the weekend, with members of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Band based at Portsmouth.
Held at Christ The King College, in Newport, representatives from all the local marching bands attended – Medina Marching Band, Vectis Corps of Drums, Wight Diamonds Marching Band and the Isle of Wight Air Cadets.
The day began with a sit-down concert band workshop, for brass, woodwind and tuned percussion players, followed by a Corps of Drums workshop.
After a quick lunch, there were parade band rehearsals in the sports hall, performing one of the pieces worked on in the sit-down workshop.
The day finished with a short performance of what had been learned to parents, friends and families, in the College’s auditorium.
The visitors included a conductor, players of the cornet, saxophone, clarinet, trombone, a percussionist and three members of the Corps of Drums.
The day was very much enjoyed by everyone that took part. Everyone planned to implement what they had learned for their individual bands.
Planning is already under way for another workshop in February.
