Man jailed for burgling two homes in Cowes

By Press Release Feb 28, 2024

A man who burgled two neighbouring properties in Cowes has been jailed.

In the early hours of the morning on Friday 15 September 2023, 26-year-old Kai Little broke into a house on Castle Road.

The homeowner was awoken by the noise and went downstairs to find Little rummaging through a bookcase. She asked him to leave and he did.

Later on, during daylight hours, the victim noticed that her next door neighbour’s house had also suffered a smashed window.

Attending officers conducted an area search and located Little cycling along Queen’s Road in Cowes. He was stopped and searched by officers who located a knife in his shoe, and some post in his bag which was addressed to the victim in Castle Road.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of burglary and one count of possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Little, of Hollies Close in Sway, admitted the offences in court and was jailed for 26 months when he appeared at Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday February 23.

Police Staff Investigator Charlotte Allan said: “This was a brazen incident which saw Little break into two homes – one of which was occupied – and continue to cycle around the local area in the hours after the event.

“Burglary is an invasive crime that leaves people feeling extremely vulnerable in their own home – a space where they should feel safe and secure.

“We take residential burglaries extremely seriously – police teams work hard to identify hotspot locations and patterns of offending to target habitual offenders and bring them to justice. On this occasion, officers were swift in identifying Little based on the description provided to police before stopping, searching and bringing him into custody.

“I hope the efforts of police and the fact that Little is now in prison can provide some reassurance to the community in Cowes.”
