Major sections of Binstead Road are set to be improved as part of a scheme due to begin on Monday, January 5.
Island Roads is planning work on the stretch between Ringwood Road and Gwydyr Close.
The scheme will be delivered in two phases to allow for other major works planned on the Island’s road network, including Southern Water works at Elenors Grove, which are due to take place between February 2 and April 10.
Phase one will cover the section between Ringwood Road and Stonepitts Close, and is programmed to run from January 5 to January 30. Phase two, between Stonepitts Close and Gwydyr Road, is scheduled to take place from April 13 until April 24. Island Roads has said the dates may change due to adverse weather, shallow services, or unknown ground conditions.
The project will involve deeper than usual excavations to address underlying issues that have led to the deterioration of the road. As a result, full 24-hour road closures will be required for the duration of the works. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, and the road will reopen between the two phases.
An Island Roads spokesman said strengthening the road’s foundations should reduce the need for future maintenance on what is described as a very busy section of highway. They added that some disruption was unavoidable and thanked road users and the local community for their understanding.
A signed diversion will be in place via Station Road, Briddlesford Road, Mersley Road, Mersley Down Road, Brading Down Road, New Road, Brading High Street, Rowborough Lane, Beaper Shute, Brading Road and Marlborough Road.
