Looking forward to this year’s cricket season

Ventnor Cricket Club start their 2024 Southern Premier League Division One campaign with a home game against newly promoted Waterlooville at Steephill tomorrow, with volunteers preparing the ground after persistent rain.

The side will be captained again by Ben Woodhouse, with Dan Cox signed from Lymington, George Watts from New Milton, and Will Mew and Sam Guerin returning, increasing squad strength. The club is also delighted to welcome back the talented and popular Sri Lankan, Dineth Thimodya, for a third successive season.

The 2nd XI, promoted from Hampshire League Division Four last year, start their Division Three campaign with a May 11 home match against Ellingham. Ben Davies will again lead the side with a nice balance of youth and experience.

Also from May 11, Ventnor will field four Saturday League teams. The 3rd XI will play in Division One of the Island League, and the fourth side in Division Two as the Club seeks to give as many longer game opportunities as possible for their young players.

The Voneus Village Cup match is at Steephill on Sunday, May 12.
