Local area co-ordinators praised by Isle of Wight MP

MP Bob Seely, pictured centre, recently visited the staff to learn more about the Local Area Co-ordination programme.

The Isle of Wight Council’s Local Area Co-ordination team have won praise from the Island’s MP for their work in helping people in the community.

Mr Seely recently visited the staff to learn more about the Local Area Co-ordination programme, which provides support to residents with disabilities, mental health needs, the elderly and carers.

Mr Seely said: “The team does a tremendous job supporting such a wide range of people here on the Island.

“It was a pleasure to meet them and thank them personally.

“Their work is varied, whether it’s helping people gain confidence looking for work, engaging with mental health issues or giving them access to local support and facilities.”

Programme manager Heather Rowell is attending an international event in Thurrock, Essex, this week, where she will be discussing the team’s work on helping people with mental health issues.

She said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to meet with our MP.

“It provided a greater opportunity to be introduced to people attending his surgeries who would benefit from our approach.”
