Blue House Council unveil Sandy McPuller with lifeboat team members

Students from The Bay CE School’s Blue House council unveiled the newly named launch tractor at Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat recently.

The vehicle, now officially called Sandy McPuller, was named by the students following their fund-raising efforts last October, when their Blue House community day raised £1,216.39. Activities included a mufti day, quiz, pick ‘n’ mix shop and a mini marathon.

The funds were presented during a visit to the lifeboat station, where students met members of the crew. They were also treated to a ride in the lifeboat as it was towed by the tractor.

A memorable moment was meeting crew-member, Kirren – a former Blue House Captain and ex-student – who was inspired to join the team after a school visit more than ten years ago.

Gareth Bricknell, head of Blue House, said: “We’re so proud of our Blue House students for their community spirit, creativity, and support for such a vital local service. Blue House are already looking ahead to their next community day in October 2025 to raise funds for the new lifeboat station building.”

Mark Birch, and the lifeboat team, thanked the students for their generosity and enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of community support in helping save lives along the Island’s coast.
