Storm Amy brought goals galore to Island football, with Ventnor hitting 24, West Wight 14, High Park Res 9, with Brading and Sandown & Lake scoring 8 apiece. There were Hants Cup wins for both Whitecroft & Barton sides, a Wessex win for Newport, and a Hants win for Shanklin Ladies.
Hants & IW Cups
The Hampshire Trophy saw mixed results for Island sides, with W&B winning 2-1 at home to Rushmore Community. They came back from a goal down at the break, with goals from Sam Cant and Fin Kalaker.
W&B Res also won 1-0 away at Horndean Utd in the Saturday Vase, with a strike from sub, Robert Taylor, in the second half.
Shanklin lost 2-1 at home to Whitehill & Bordon, with a consolation goal from Alfie Flux.
Playing at home against Meon Milton, Oakfield lost 5-0.
Northwood lost 4-3 to Headley United in a penalty shoot out, after the match finished 1-1 after Harry Bell scored for 10-player Northwood, who had a player red-carded.
In the Gold Cup, Ventnor won 24-1 at home to a depleted High Park team, with Emerson Tattersall hitting 10, Liam Harper (4), Sonny Mulholland (3), Ant Kettell (2), Ben Harvey (2), Euan Sargent (2) and Harry Mulholland netting the goals.
In the IW Junior A Cup, Craig Mason’s goal saw Binstead COB beat Ryde Saints 1-0 at the Molehill.
Sandown & Lake won 8-1 away at Pan Community, with Ryan Gardner (3), Louis Day (2), Rowenn Churchill (1), Ethan Dicker (1), and Jimmy Golding (1) on target for Sandown.
Newchurch won 3-0 at home to Seaview, with goals from Sean Smith, Charlie Stewart and Nick Weedon.
IW Leagues and Combinations One and Two
West Wight’s 14-0 away win at Osborne Coburg, sees them top Division One, 2 points above W&B who have a game in hand. Goals came from Gareth Bricknell (4), Josh Daley (3), Chris Elliott (2), sub, Liam Blythe (2), Casey Tyrell (2), and Jason Moore.
Cowes Sports Res narrowly won 4-3 away at Bembridge & Vectis, with goals from Teddy Mumford, Zac Fever-Norton, Joe Calder, and Jordan Whittle.
In Division Two, East Cowes Vics Res won 7-0 at home to Newport Res, with 4 goals from Macauley Barnes, 2 from Ollie Sweatman, and 1 apiece from James Cheek and sub, Bubacarr Touray.
Combination One saw a comprehensive 8-3 home win for Brading Reserves against Oakfield Res, with Jamie Linington getting a hat-trick, 2 from Brad Gamble and Jack Williams, 1 from the yellow-carded Chris Murray. Sub, Liam Reynolds, was also booked for the Romans.
West Wight Res won 4-1 at home to Ventnor Res, with Josh Craig, Jordan Flynn, and sub, Reece Galloway (2) on target for West Wight. Harley Kennett got the consolation goal.
High Park Res won 9-1 at home to Osborne Coburg Res, with East Cowes Sports Res drawing 2-2 at home to Bembridge & Vectis Res, with Callum Fryer and Owen Stone-Broughton cancelling out Joe Houghton’s two goals for Bembridge.
In Combination Two, leaders High Park A drew 1-1 at home to Binstead COB; Oakfield A won 4-0 at home to Newchurch Res. Gary Harvey (2), and Josh Flux scored for Sandown & Lake A in their 3-2 away win at Ryde Saints Res.
Jake Smith and Tom Stone scored West Wight A’s goals in their 2-0 victory over Bembridge & Vectis A.
Wessex
Cowes lost 4-0 at home to Hamble, and Vics lost 4-0 away at AFC Stoneham.
Newport claimed a 2-0 away win, in Division One, at Amesbury Town, with goals from Ji Nash and Sonny Myram.
Hants Women
Shanklin Ladies secured a well-deserved 3-2 away win at Gosport Borough, with goals from Gemma Woodford (2) and an 87th-minute winner from Thea Broadhead. Shanklin came back twice from Gosport leads, and the win moved Shanklin to second in the league.
Wight Eagles narrowly lost 2-1 away at Rushmoor Community in Division Two, with a consolation strike from Ellena Boakes.
Midweek match
Newport lost a competitive Wessex League Cup second round match, 5-2 away, at United Services Portsmouth. Jez Conway scored twice, including an overhead kick.
The club will be at Morrison’s between 10 and noon today (Friday), collecting for the Mountbatten’s Go Yellow day.
