Islanders triumphs over an ill-disciplined Romsey

Isle of Wight 39 v Romsey 26

The Islanders maintained their recent good form with a solid home win over Division One bottom side Romsey, with the home side’s man-of-the-match, Luke Blackman, opening the scoring just after 10 minutes, and adding a second try 10 minutes later.

Islanders maintained pressure and a penetrating burst from Tom Marriott added to the lead, with the ever-reliable boot of George Huish adding a conversion. Huish then carried over to give the Wootton side a 24-0 lead. This seemed to spark a Romsey resurgence, and scores either side of the break reduced the gap to 24-19.

Ill-discipline from the visitors gave Huish an easy penalty, and he added his second try. Then stalwart Andy White’s try, allowed Huish to convert for a personal tally of 19 points in the match. Romsey reduced the deficit before the final whistle, but the Island side will be delighted to move up to sixth place and they visit US Portsmouth next.

Also Hurries are away to Millbrook, Ventnor home to Gosport, Tornadoes (recovering from a 45-12 away defeat to Nomads) are at Winchester. The IW 2nd XV will be away at Lymington, and Ventnor 2nds away at Fareham.
