Island Windows has teamed up with REHAU Recycling and its specialist facility PVCR in a move that will significantly reduce the number of old window frames sent to landfill from the Isle of Wight.
Until now, the company had been sending removed frames to a small local site with limited capacity. The new arrangement followed a visit from Will Gold, chief executive of Polyframe, who discussed how REHAU’s national recycling network could support the business.
Owner Dominic Winram said sustainability had become an increasing priority as customers look more closely at environmental impact. He said the partnership with PVCR offers a practical, long‑term solution, with collections made directly from the company’s site. The system has also been opened up to other Island glaziers.
The first collection took place in late October, with the old polymer window systems transported to PVCR’s plant in Runcorn. The facility processes more than 13,200 tonnes of post‑consumer windows and doors each year, recovering material that is then used in the manufacture of new frames and other products.
A spokesman from REHAU said the collaboration supports its commitment to managing window frames responsibly throughout their lifecycle, from manufacture to end‑of‑life, and demonstrates how recycling partnerships can help reduce waste on the Island.
