Island scores well in the Hampshire Open

IW Youth Darts Academy squad

Reg ‘The Ledge’ Woodmore battled to runner-up place in the Hampshire Open as part of the Island’s youth darts academy, which travelled to Southampton at the weekend.

A total of 16 players were registered to play in the event at St Mary’s Stadium, with Ronan Taylor and Mason Worthington going out in the early rounds, followed by Maison Harrington, Jack Thistleton, Harris Hayter, Lyla Sheath, Leyton Barton, Brendan O’Reilly and Jamie Furmidge.

Next up, Ronnie Sheath, Oscar Adamson and Theo Wright were all knocked out followed by Connor Mitchel and Jack Christie in the round of 16.

This left two players in the quarter-finals – Reg and Drew Catania. Drew played first, and, while finding the scoring power of his previous rounds, he was unable to see the game through.

But Reg lasted the distance as his game continued to improve, with two more wins getting him through to the final.

The final itself was a fantastic high-scoring game with great finishing and was tied at 2-2. But Reg missed a double and his opponent took full advantage to eventually take the match 4-2.
