Island Roads has named Newport-based Friends of the Animals (FOTA) as its staff Charity of the Year.
Representatives from the animal charity visited Island Roads’ headquarters last week, bringing along Lolly, a rescue dog, and a cake to thank the company’s charity committee for its support. FOTA was founded 36 years ago and provides assistance with spaying and neutering, rehoming, veterinary bills, wildlife rescue and foodbank support for Island pet owners.
Last year, the charity provided help costing almost £500,000. It raises funds through five charity shops on the Island and in Portsmouth, as well as street and in-store collections.
FOTA office manager, Lacie Scott-Jackson, said support from a large employer would make a significant difference as the charity looks to maintain fund-raising levels following its busiest year to date.
Island Roads’ charity committee member, India Dale, said many Island Roads employees were animal lovers, with more than half of staff votes going to FOTA. Her colleague, Sarah Ledger, said fund-raising plans include sweepstakes linked to major sporting events, a bake off and a sponsored walk.
