History of IW Festival exhibition at Dimbola

By Press Release Jun 9, 2023

Dimbola was packed with supporters for the recent launch of the ‘Experience The Isle of Wight Festival 2002-2023’ exhibition.

David Bowie gazed down from above the fireplace, Jagger was just across the room in a typical pose, Dave Grohl was holding his axe aloft in the adjoining room and Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers was in place above the fireplace next-door.

Locally sourced refreshments included quiches made by Dimbola staff, snacks from Briddlesford Farm, and Harvey Brown-sourced ingredients. Mermaid Distillery gins, vodka, spiced rum cocktails and Goddards Ales also proved popular.

Highlights from previous years of the IW Festival, played onscreen in The Studio, and the walls featured some of the best acts and photography from the past 21 years, including shots taken by IW Observer photographer, Chris Cornford.

IW Festival boss, John Giddings, received a warm welcome from Brian Hinton, chairman of Dimbola Lodge, and Ray Foulk, who organised the 1968 to 1970 festivals. It was an emotional launch for John, who said: “It brings back memories of the last 21 years. I hope everyone comes to see ‘Experience’ and supports Dimbola.”

The exhibition will run until September 17, while aspects of the exhibition will be at the Dimbola marquee at the IW Festival, where there will be prints and merchandise available, and a silent auction of David Bowie framed photographs.
