Heart Club’s walk raises over £1,600

A sponsored walk was organised by the Isle of Wight Heart Club (IWHCC) for its members recently.

The walk was a three mile stroll between Shide and Merstone, with more than 60 members participating, along with several dogs.

A minibus, operated by Aspire, was on hand in case it was needed.

IWHCC’s senior instructor, Lyn Smith, checked in members for the walk who arrived at Shide on the spring morning, before giving them the go ahead to start.

The route followed well-maintained cycle and footpaths, bordered by trees, hedges and spring flowers.

A number of walkers were amazed to be overtaken by 90-year-old John Crowhurst, a West Wight member, some way into the walk before he disappeared off into the distance.

Reaching Merstone, the minibus was waiting to take back anyone who needed a lift after their three mile walk, although many decided to walk back again, making it a six mile round-trip.

At the finish line, walkers were welcomed with cakes made by one of the members.

With registration and sponsor money, the club has raised just over £1,600 from the event.
