Gunville yellow lines plan deferred over planning uncertainty

The committee try to decide whether they can make a decision

At last night’s (Thursday’s) meeting of the Economy, Regeneration, Transport and Infrastructure Committee, councillors spent half an hour debating whether to introduce double yellow lines around Forest Hills, Arthur Moody Drive, Broadwood Lane and Park Close in Gunville – only to defer the decision after realising no one was sure whether the development the restrictions were linked to still had valid planning permission.

The measures were tied to a 36‑home development, with the parking restrictions said to ensure visibility and safe access. But Cllr Joe Lever urged the committee to reject or condition the scheme, citing residents’ concerns. He warned there were “serious doubts” the development would ever proceed, noting drainage plans remain unsubmitted, the site has been advertised for sale, and the land is prone to flooding. A full public consultation had been carried out on the proposals.

Once it became clear that no officer could confirm the planning status, monitoring officer Chris Potter advised deferral. Members agreed unanimously – a fine example of the council wasting time and resources for no outcome at all.
