Get ready for the IW Welly Wanging and Tomato Tossing championships!

Forget this year’s Olympic Games, all eyes will be on the Island this summer as Wessex Cancer Support brings its family fun day, including the Welly Wanging and Tomato Tossing championships, to the Isle of Wight County Showground between 11am and 4pm on Saturday, August 31.

The championships will see participants wang (the Yorkshire word for ‘throw’) their welly or toss their tomato as far as possible to become the champion and the events are designed for all ages. And it’s not just competitors that will enjoy this event – if you don’t feel like competing then come along and enjoy all the activities that this family event has to offer.

Meet local firefighters and sit in a fire engine, get your face painted, guess how many balloons the Young Farmers’ Association have in their tractor, and enjoy an ice cream from Plaza Ices! Or why not taste a delicious treat from Honey’s Donuts or create some art with Seaside Surprise? You can also browse the range of stalls selling their wares, including The Wight Smoke and Little Wights Clothing.

There is all this and much more to enjoy and all money raised from this event goes towards supporting local people affected by cancer.

Tickets available from wessexcancer.org.uk/welly or by calling Wessex Cancer Support on 01983 655038.
