Sandown Bay’s popular Regatta Hat Parade returns this summer, giving Islanders the chance to show off their creativity and win a cash prize.
Taking place on Sunday, August 10, the regatta competition offers £100 for Best Hat, with two additional prizes: one for the best creation by an under 12 and another, the Mad Hatter award for the most eccentric hat on show. Organisers are encouraging people of all ages to get started on their designs now.
Paul Coueslant, of Sandown Carnival, said: “We’re thrilled to give young and old alike the chance to get creative over the next six weeks and have fun parading the results of their work on the beach.”
The event was relaunched last year with Arts Council support, and has since become a highlight of Sandown’s summer celebrations.
Oversized Regatta hats featured in last year’s carnival, and were also displayed in the ‘Hats Off to Sandown’ exhibition at Quay Arts in the autumn.
Updates on the event, including how to take part, will be shared on Sandown Carnival’s Facebook page in the run-up to the parade.
