The IW Observer’s gardening columnist Darren Everest is swapping secateurs for sneakers next week as he takes on the Dash in the Dark at Robin Hill on Saturday (October 3), raising money for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
The 5k (3.1mile) night time event invites participants to walk, jog, run – or even dance – their way around the illuminated course. Darren joked that “those who know me will know I was built for speed rather than endurance. In my old footballing days I was known for my burst of pace rather than stamina!”
His wife Dawn offered a slightly different assessment of his athletic prowess, adding: “These days there are slugs and snails that move faster than Darren, so please don’t expect a fast time from him!”
The Air Ambulance provides life saving emergency care across the region, and Darren is hoping readers will help him support the charity as he tackles the challenge. If you would like to sponsor him, please head to iw.observer/darrens-dash.
