A total of £1,200 was raised for the Applegate breast cancer support group, at the Community Spirited Cafe, East Cowes, last Saturday.

The money was raised from a cream tea and a grand raffle with Community Spirited founder, Jane Allchorn, saying: “We never thought it would be this successful!”

Jane explained: “It is the second time we have done something for the Applegate group, which is based at the Riverside Centre, Newport. Breast cancer has affected a couple of our carers, so we know the value of what they do to help people.

“We knew it was going to be popular, so we asked people to pay up front and we initially had about 35 people get in touch, but, in the end, there were around 50. It was lovely to see so many here to support Applegate. This money will help pay their rent for this year, so that made it even more worthwhile.”
