The government’s decision to scrap winter fuel payments will affect around 10 million UK pensioners who do not receive pension credit. From mid-September, they will lose payments of up to £300, straining finances in many instances.
Coupled with energy prices set to rise by another 10 per cent in October, many Islanders are increasingly anxious about how they will manage household budgets, as the colder months approach. One said: “With the cost of living already so high, the news of another energy price hike is really worrying. I’m anxious about keeping our home warm without the bills spiralling out of control. We need to cut our energy use, but I don’t know where to start.”
Now, Green Isle of Wight CIC is providing practical, accessible support through its free EnergyWise service. Lisa Beaney said: “We understand the worry that comes with these increases, and our goal is to provide peace of mind. We’re committed to helping our community stay warm this winter without the financial strain.
“EnergyWise provides a range of free services to help Islanders take control of their energy use. Our advice is personalised to meet the specific needs of each household. Our qualified professionals can also carry out free home energy surveys, including thermal imaging, to identify key areas where you can save energy.
