A former fish and chip shop could be leased to a local housing association as a one-bedroom apartment.

The applicant has submitted plans to County Hall for a change of use of 36 Victoria Road in Cowes, previously home to Chip Ahoy which closed in September 2022.

The external appearance of the property will be unaffected by proposed works, according to the application form.

It says: “The owner’s intent is to lease the one-bedroom dwelling to the local housing association. The owner wishes to preserve the character of the property by undertaking mainly internal modifications to provide a living area to the ground floor and one-bedroom with a bathroom to the lower ground floor.

“Internally, the existing chip-shop fixtures and fittings will be removed with an extended partition wall placed to separate the kitchen from the dining/living room.

“On the lower ground floor, one internal dividing wall will be removed with a number of new partition walls installed to create the one bedroom, hallway and main bathroom.”

The IW Council’s public consultation on application 25/01796/3MPA at iw.observer/planning-portal concludes on January 23 and a decision is due on January 30.
