Five of the most famous trophies in world football stopped off at Ryde Town Club yesterday (Thursday) as part of a world tour.
The Wight Blues, the Island branch of the Official Manchester City Supporters’ Club organised the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Islanders to see, but definitely not touch, the trophies their team holds, the World Club Championship, UEFA Champions’ League, European Super Cup, The Premier League and FA Cup.
The trophies have visited China, Korea, India, Greece, Norway, Australia, The UAE, Belgium, the USA and, most recently, Brazil.
And after their brief sojourn on the Island they will be off to Buenos Aires in Argentina.
Wight Blues chairman, John Nightingale, said: “It is fantastic that City have allowed this amazing collection of trophies to come to the Isle of Wight.” Tickets to see the silverware cost £10, which also covered an evening talk by former City captain, Andy Morrison.
