Firefighters issue photo of careless behaviour ahead of hot weather

Firefighters have urged the public to be cautious as hot and dry weather conditions return.

Firefighters from Freshwater Fire Station have released a warning image ahead of a further spell of high temperatures.

An image of a group of people next to a small fire near Totland sea front is being used to demonstrate what not to do in the coming days.

Fires or heat of any kind in dry grasses, bushes and trees can cause fires that spread rapidly, cause an extreme risk to health and are incredibly difficult to put out.

Be extra safe around barbecues, even in your own backyard, do not leave them unattended, be mindful when using fuel to light them and watch for sparks or embers igniting brush around you.

If you want to be really sure you won’t cause an incident – skip the barbecue altogether.
