Finley is crowned Series Champion

Finley in action

Young riders, Finley Manser-Grundy and Sonny Shuttleworth, travelled to Gloucestershire at the weekend for the final round of the British Cycling Go-Ride 417 Flyup Bike Park Downhill Series.

Finley, racing in the U-9 category, arrived with confidence after two strong earlier rounds, and the final event delivered a thrilling contest.

A fast opening run put him in a tight battle for victory, with just 0.3 seconds separating him from the leader. Knowing the margins were very fine, he pushed hard on his second attempt, and took another second off his time, but his rival matched the improvement leaving Finley in second place, 0.4 seconds behind the winner.

However, consistent results across the series secured him the overall title, earning him the 2025 Series Champion crown. Dad, Jack, said: “Throughout the series, Finley showcased remarkable consistency, skill and courage. He adapted to varying track conditions and maintained top-tier performance, which made him the standout rider.”

Sonny, competing in the U-13 field, continued to grow in confidence in his first season, showing real determination to finish 18th in a field of 22 very competitive riders. The event was held on a newly-revived trail, and light overnight rain left the course grippy and fast, adding to the challenge.

Dad, Orion, said: “Over the winter, Sonny is set to put in a lot of training. Moving to a larger-wheeled bike next season could unlock more speed and stability. He’s shown great commitment this year and given us plenty to look forward to next season.”
