Island rowing crews have taken part in the final Time Trial of the winter.
Division One, rowing the longer 3,450m (2.1 mile) Medina course against the tide, saw another strong performance from Simon Nevitt from Shanklin, at 65 per cent of gold medal time (GMT).
Newport’s Men’s Junior Four crew had the fastest time in the Division of 15m 47s, being 64 per cent of GMT. Other Newport crews in Div One were Men’s Junior B (17m 45s), Men’s Novice (18m 22s), and Women’s Novice (19m 17s).
Division Two, over the shorter 1,750m (1.1 mile) course, rowing with the tide, producing faster overall times, and the young scullers from Ryde (Charlie Watts U-16) and Shanklin’s (Connie Batley-Smith U-14) replicated their performances from the February trial and again had the best percentage of GMT at 75 and 74 per cent respectively. The Newport Junior Men’s crew also had the fastest time in the division of 7m 6s, but close behind them were the Ryde U-16 4 with a time of 7m 10s.
Other Newport crews in Division Two were Men’s Masters (7m 37s), Men’s Novice (7m 29s), Women’s Novice (8m 43s) and Women’s Masters (8m 47s). There was special recognition for Grace Garner who, at a moment’s notice, stepped in to row for the Novice Crew.
