A fiesta of female performers bedazzled CHOYD in Yarmouth last Friday, ahead of International Women’s Day.

The show opened with a gala of singers, gifted sisters, Izy and Summer, and talented trio Lizzie, Alex and Harriet. Hillard Morley read choice extracts from The Shadowing of Combfoot Chase, and a spirited Mrs Snelling ‘rapped’ eloquently from jail. The ever-elegant Phoenix-Sahar (Dawn Everest) enchanted the audience with her Egyptian Dance troupe consisting of Yvonne Collins, Ellen Lovell, Mary Harrison and Jean G-Owen. Candid cat, James, and judicious Jean gave voice to feminism with their ‘out-spoken-word’ acts, while comedy queen, Cheryl May, entertained with a hairy sketch titled ‘The Things We Do’.

Amy Jolliffe, Linda O’Connor and Jackie Gallaher, with Lyn Watterson, and 2Gether in Harmony duo, Glynis Barcham and Ruth Hibbert, took to the stage for an extravaganza of musical numbers. They joined Jean and Cheryl for the evening’s finale, when newly-formed

WomenKind performed ‘All Kinds Of Women’, a song Jean wrote and recently recorded to raise money for Home-Start IOW. All proceeds of the evening were also donated to Home-Start.

The next Figgy Gig, on Friday, May 3, celebrates ‘Isle of Wightness’. Contact Jean G-Owen on 07715 985689 or jean28owen@gmail.com.
