A huge celebration for Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, took place at Wootton Community Centre, on Saturday.
There was a ceremonial lighting of the candle, to symbolise the victory of light over darkness, and entertainment with a variety of traditional dances.
Rajesh Patel said: “A huge thank-you to everyone for making the Diwali party such a wonderful and memorable celebration. The effort, joy, and togetherness shared by all truly made the evening special. I’m grateful to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped create such a beautiful event.
“A big thank-you to everyone who helped to put this function together and make it more memorable. How can we forget Parita Patel for her wonderful dance? It was such pleasure to watch her and, as usual, there was a wonderful grand finale dance from our wonderful Isle of Wight family.”
Among the guests were High Sheriff, Jaque Gazzard, along with Deputy Lord-Lieutenant, Andrew Watt, and IW councillors, Ed Blake and Ian Ward. The event was organiser by Dr Ramesh Babu, who acted as MC.
