Falconry centre gives eagle forever home

An 11-year-old captive-bred Bald Eagle has arrived at The Falconry Experience, at Robin Hill, where she will have a permanent home focused on her long-term welfare and stability.

Kailani, whose name means “sea and sky”, was bred and raised in Wales before later working at falconry centres in Oxford and Scotland. She previously took part in arena flying demonstrations and private group displays, but was withdrawn from regular flying after developing repeated aggression towards handlers. She subsequently spent extended periods housed in aviaries.

Her feather condition was already compromised before her most recent move, with a number of damaged feathers. Travelling after several years without transport caused further temporary feather damage, and ongoing weight management for display work prevented a full moult cycle. A complete moult is now needed, although her appearance is not the primary concern.

The focus at The Falconry Experience is on building confidence, security, and trust through a calm and structured routine. Her training has been reset to basic foundations, with progress guided by her behaviour rather than fixed timelines. Although the precise causes of her past behaviour are unknown, the team says their approach is positive and forward-looking.

Visitors will be able to see Kailani during half-term, when she will be on display. In the longer term, the team hopes she will return to flight when ready, including potential coastal and cliff flights within the Island landscape.

The Falconry Experience says Kailani now has a secure, permanent home dedicated to her lifelong care.
