Evening road closures planned for Cowes Week start today

By Press Release Aug 2, 2025

Temporary evening road closures will be in place throughout Cowes Week (2–8 August) to protect pedestrians during one of the busiest events in the Island’s calendar.

The closures, which run daily from 6pm to 1am, follow public safety advice from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police, who have raised concerns over pedestrian and vehicle interactions in crowded areas.
The following restrictions will apply during closure times:

  • Terminus Road closed from the Carvel Lane junction. Access will remain for residents, buses, taxis and Red Jet users up to the Carvel Lane/M&S junction.
  • High Street closed at both the Red Jet and Market Hill ends.
  • Market Hill (lower section) and Bath Road closed to all vehicles.
  • Market Hill to become two-way to support Castle Road residents.
  • The Parade closed to all vehicles; foot access only for residents.
  • Red Jet Terminal not accessible by car during closure hours. Drop-offs should be made at the Terminus Road/Carvel Lane junction or Carvel Lane taxi rank.

These measures have previously been available under the Cowes Week Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO), but this year the council is taking a more proactive approach.

Michelle Love, the council’s service director for highways and community protection, said: “We know these closures will be inconvenient for some, but the safety of residents and visitors must come first.”

The arrangements will be monitored daily and adjusted as needed. Residents and visitors are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
