Dyli the dog saves the day for stuck horse

Efforts are made to reach Ben

Dyli the dog was the hero after a search for a missing pony on Monday.

Ben was reported missing from his field near Coleman’s Lane, Porchfield. An initial search proved fruitless, and its owner then contacted the volunteer group, Drone SAR, for Lost Dogs IOW.

They sent up drones to look around the surrounding countryside, again without any joy. Finally, specialist search dog, Dyli, was called into action.

It was not long before Dyli, with a handler new to him, signalled that he had found Ben stuck 12 metres into a hawthorn hedge, not too far from his home.

Dyli gave a freeze indication that Ben was in the hedge, although the volunteers still had to look hard to see where he was stuck.

The volunteers then freed Ben and, despite suffering from a bit of shock, he was taken back safely to his stable.
