Drive a steam engine

By IW Observer.co.uk Feb 21, 2022

If you’ve ever wanted to drive a steam engine, here is your chance.

It may not be this Black 5 on the Strathspey Railway, the oldest one still working, but a somewhat smaller model at The Isle of Wight area group of the N Gauge Society (NGS), who now meet on the third Thursday of each month, from March 17, at Whitwell Village Hall.

New members are made very welcome; you do not have to be a member of the NGS. If you are interested in railways and would enjoy getting together with a like-minded group of men and women, why not go along to one of their meetings?

N Gauge model railways are popular because the modeller has scope to create a scene in a small space. Members of the group are starting to build a modular layout, each module or board being just 4ft x 3ft, and easy to transport in an average family car. When they are joined together, they form one large layout to fit the space available.
