The D was for Drama, as IW Women 1st XI worked hard to secure a 2-0 home win against Winchester in Division Two South. The experienced Kate Ednay scored in the first half, and, in the second half, a break by Evie Fairhurst was illegally blocked on the line and Polly Rider coolly slotted home from the penalty spot. The Island’s brave keeper, Tia Shutler, then made a penalty save to secure success, and fourth place in the table, for the Islanders. See shots from the match at iw.observer/310-sport.
The Men’s 2nd XI won 4-3 at home to Trojans, in Solent One, with a hat-trick from Thomas Young and a goal from Stephen Woodford. The team has a game in hand over 4th-placed Trojans.
This weekend, IW Men 1st XI are home to Romsey, with the 2nd XI away at Haslemere. Ladies 1st XI are away at Chichester, and the 2nd XI start 2025 with a home match against Portsmouth.
