Don’t miss the show of the summer

By Press Release Jun 16, 2023

The Royal Isle of Wight County Show returns on the weekend of July 8 and 9, with a fun slice of rural life, and the opportunity to learn more about the Island’s farming, food and countryside.

Last year’s show was a bumper success, with more than 11,000 visitors attending the event. Graham Biss, show chairman, said: “In 2022 we expanded to two days and the format worked brilliantly. There were more opportunities for visitors to get up close to the animals, see the displays, and have a go at all the activities and traditional rural crafts.”

Graham continued: “This year we’re introducing some new features. There’s a show garden display area; it’s like a mini Chelsea Flower Show. We’ve got terrier racing, which is very fast and funny to watch. The Fun Dog Show has expanded and will be held on both days, and we have a record number of food, crafts and trade exhibitors.”

Livestock is still at the heart of the event, with animals competing for cups, ranging from Best in Class to Supreme Champions. You can also see cows being milked, sheep being sheared and try your hand at herding a pig. And alongside the usual equine events, the show is hosting The British Scurry & Carriage Trials.
