The Isle of Wight has been shortlisted as finalist in the Group Leisure and Travel Awards, which could see the much-loved holiday destination crowned top for the third year in a row.
The nomination has been made by readers of Group Leisure and Travel magazine and the Island is now in the running to be voted winner as the Best UK Destination.
Readers of the magazine will now vote for their favourite destination, which sees the Island up against other top UK locations, including County Durham, London, Wiltshire and Liverpool. Amy Summers, head of marketing and sustainability at Visit Isle of Wight, said: “To be shortlisted once again in the GLT Awards is an incredible honour. It just goes to show how fantastic the tourism offer is here on our Island and how hard local businesses work to provide reasons to visit time and again.
“Coach and group travel is a vital part of our visitor numbers, especially through the winter months, and this award highlights the importance the sector contributes to our Island economy.”
Other businesses with strong Island links are also represented in the well-known group travel awards.
Daish’s Holidays are shortlisted in the Best Coach or Tour Operator, Wightlink in the Best Ferry or Fixed Link Operator, and in the Best Accommodation for Groups category it is a three-way battle for the Island between Leisureplex Holiday Hotels (Shanklin Hotel and Bayshore Hotel in Sandown), Daish’s Holidays at Shanklin and Warner Hotels in Yarmouth and Bembridge.
Voting closes at the end of April and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on June 26.
