A group of 23 Wight Tri members gathered for the Carisbrooke Castle duathlon on Sunday.
The event kicked off in the sunshine from the Priory car park, also being shared with a gang of enthusiastic bikers who had roared into the scene. Competitors chose to complete either 1 or 2 loops of a 2.5k (1½ mile) run around the scenic castle streets and up to the ‘shrubbery.’ Unfortunately, the runners found they had felled logs to clamber over.
The cycling leg was a 19k (11 4⁄5 mile) spin around Carisbrooke, Shorwell and Chillerton. All members made it over the finish, with some good performances. The nominated time was a very close call, with five entrants within a minute of their predicted times. However with only 6 seconds off his 1h 5m 6s finish, Dan Morgan won first place for nomination. The fastest for the short runs and bike was Daron Perkins with 1h 3m 35s, and Craig Wilson putting in a performance for the long runs and bike in 1h 20m 25s.
Hot drinks, cakes and chocolate biscuits were enjoyed after the event.
The next duathlon, likely to be at Colwell on March 30, is to be confirmed.
