Brighstone Community Coffee Morning recently celebrated their 10th Anniversary with a birthday cake, a glass of ‘bubbly’ and entertainment at their regular Tuesday morning meeting.

The coffee morning was established in 2014 as a partnership between St Mary’s Church, Brighstone, Age UK (IW) and Brighstone Methodist Chapel, who host the weekly event. It was funded for one year, and after that first year, was taken on by a team of local volunteers. It has since gone from strength to strength.

Over the years, the coffee morning has celebrated individual birthdays, wedding anniversaries, several royal events and national milestones. A regular week will see a quiz, a raffle and occasional visiting speakers or entertainers. Regular outings are organised too, the latest one was tea enjoyed by 45 people in the garden at the Highdown Inn.

Although physical meetings were suspended during covid, the volunteer team kept in touch within the community and reconvened as soon as it was safe.

When the volunteers stepped in to ensure the coffee morning continued, they had little idea they would still be there 10 years on, providing a much loved, and greatly appreciated service!
