With weather wreaking havoc across the leagues, in Division One the Hurricanes lost 36-0 at Gosport & Fareham, who climb above the Island side and move into second spot.
Division Two’s Isle of Wight lost 5-29 at home to Petersfield, including a 50-minute stalemate at 5-12. The fixture went ahead after it was in the process of being postponed when it was found that the visitors were already on the car ferry.
First half conditions favoured the Island side, who conceded to score inside 10 minutes, but then rallied with a penalty to gain territory and secure a line-out. The returning Ryan Tulloch crossed the line for a try, with George Huish unable to convert for 5-12 inside 15 minutes. This was followed by injuries to Sam McQueen, after taking a boot to the face while lying on the ground. Dan Ward was forced off in the act of almost scoring a try at the end of the first half.
The second half saw player-of-the-match, Michael Joyce, enter the fray from the bench, but the Island conceded another try, although Luke Blackman almost scored for IW. Further injuries exposed the Islanders to a determined Petersfield performance, with the 5-29 score-line, not reflective of the early promise in desperate conditions.
This weekend, the Island’s senior sides have a rest, with fixtures resuming on 7 December.
