Cabinet Connection Lora Peacey-Wilcox – Leader of the IW Council

By Press Release Jun 16, 2023

Despite the noise and threats, we, as an Alliance, continue to implement and work for the Island residents. It’s very much business as usual.

I do hope you are all staying safe during this heat – keeping hydrated (with water, preferably!) and staying in the shade as much as you are able.

A huge and very warm (if not hot) welcome to our visitors enjoying the Isle of Wight Festival. A sell-out event; I hope you enjoy every moment, and very importantly, you all stay safe!

My thanks to our local residents for their patience and understanding during the five days of noise, chaos and frivolities. I, too, got caught in the traffic snarl up, despite sending out reminders for people to be aware. Next year I hope to remember.

Please be respectful to all staff working at every venue, including our cross-Solent operators, who do the best they can with extremely high numbers of festival-goers.

Please be warned that, after the IW Festival, comes the Horsebridge Hill temporary traffic lights, listed to be June 20 to July 2. This was the window of opportunity after the IW Festival but before the County Show. It will cause long delays. Please plan ahead around those dates, especially

those with Red Jets to catch, hospital appointments, and attending the crematorium. The work is necessary to provide homes for our Island residents.

Finally, a massive thank you to each and every person that has contacted or spoken with me, offering their support. I am very humbled by your kindness.

Take care.

Lora.
