Police are appealing for witnesses after an 81-year-old woman died following a road traffic accident in Newport on Monday (January 16).
A spokesman confirmed: “We are appealing for information and witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Newport on Monday.
“At about 3pm, a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a lorry on High Street, near the junction with St James’ Street.
“Sadly, the pedestrian, an 81-year-old woman from Totland, died at the scene.
“Her family have been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.
“A 24-year-old man from Bembridge was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been released under investigation.
“We are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and would particularly like to speak to anyone with relevant dash cam, doorbell or CCTV footage. Anyone with relevant information should call 101 quoting reference number 44230020631.”
