The Man v Fat Challenge, a home-based healthy living and competitive digital weight loss programme for men is coming to the Isle of Wight, with funded places available.
On the Island it is estimated that 62.3 per cent of adults – and 68 per cent of men – are either overweight or obese, which could equate to as many as 35,500 men.
In the challenge, men join a local team and weigh in remotely on-line, scoring points for weight loss whilst receiving support from a dedicated coach. Teams take on each other in weekly challenges, and earn bonus points for losing weight and improving their health with extra bonuses for weight loss milestones.
“Male obesity is still something of a taboo topic,” explained Ben Middleton, Man v Fat Challenge Lead. “The challenge provides the support we all need. You get to check in with your team-mates, and cheer each other on and support each other to lose weight week after week. You can also try fun new forms of exercise and challenge yourself in the kitchen so that weight loss never becomes a chore. We have shown that the programme can build healthy habits for life without you feeling that you’re missing out on anything.”
Participants also get access to the community’s Facebook group where they can see weekly live talks with experts, have access to a digital mental health platform, and can join a Virtual Gym, where they can take part in on-line training programs.
For the funded places there is a one-off 50p administration charge, the rest of the programme is funded by the Isle of Wight Council for the first 14 weeks. To find out more email challenge@manvfat.com or manvfatchallenge.co.uk.
