Volunteers make short work of tree planting

Volunteers turned out in force on Saturday after a plea from Freshwater Parish Council to help plant trees.

A total of 24 people were on duty to plant 420 native trees on Stroud and Jubilee Fields in less than three hours.
A parish council spokesman said: “It was amazing – well done all. We aimed to plant more than 400 trees in a day but they did it in just three hours.”
Volunteers had to book in advance and the event was so popular it was oversubscribed.

The spokesman added: “We hope to hold larger community events once restrictions lift a little more.”
