Victories in Vase competition in this week’s football

Sandown & Lake and West Wight claimed cup successes in the Hants Vase, and East Cowes Vics won in Wessex. There were hat-tricks for Cowes’ Scott McFarlane and Vectis’ Bubacarr Touray, and Shanklin Ladies maintain their lead at the top of Hants Division One.

Hants & IW Cups

In the Hants Vase, Sandown & Lake Res won 3-2 at home to Emsworth Town, with Dylan Andrews opening the scoring after 15 minutes. Danny Cowburn added a second, with Aaron Burford getting the winner in the last 10 minutes. Both Burford and Cowburn were yellow-carded.

West Wight Res came from a goal behind to win 2-1 at home to Bournemouth Electric, with second-half goals from Jordan Flynn and Simon Merrett.

In the Hants Trophy, Bembridge lost 5-3 on penalties to Tadley Calleva, after the match finished 2-2, with Bembridge goals from Jez Conway and Rory Day.

Whitecroft & Barton overcame a strong Ventnor side 1-0, with a second-half goal from Sam Cant in the Memorial Cup. Harry Ovnik and Alex Wright were yellow-carded by ref Ali Taylor. The team is now in the last eight of the competition.

Island Leagues & Combination

In Division One, after a goal-less first half, Cowes Res won 7-0 at home to Binstead COB, with a Scott McFarlane hat-trick, and 1 apiece for Euan St John Biggs, Charlie Marsek, Jared Tout-Walters and Charlie Haward.

In Division Two, Pan community drew 2-2 at home to Newchurch, with Ethan Brierley getting a goal in both halves for the visitors. Kayton Barton and Kaylum Case were on target for Pan.

Combination Two saw Vectis Res win 9-1 away at Ryde Saints, with a hat-trick for Bubacarr Touray, 2 for Cameron Kayode, and 1 apiece for Tevin Orinda, Harry Furness, and sub, Ashdan Boudewijn.

Wessex

Fourth-placed, and Wessex League’s Team-of-the-Month, East Cowes Vics, won 4-2 at home to Aldermaston in Division One, with goals from Liam Triggs, player-of-the-match Harrison Yates, and sub Scott Jones (2).

Newport and Cowes matches were called off.

Ladies football

Division One leaders Shanklin Ladies won 2-1 away at United Services Portsmouth, with goals from Freya Henry and Rosie Willis. Player-of-the-match was awarded to midfielder, Peggy Stagg. In Division Two, Wight Eagles AFC lost 4-0 at home to Portchester.

Midweek results

A youthful East Cowes Vics side were disappointed to lose their home Wessex League Cup quarter-final against league leaders Portchester 1-0. After a warm-up injury saw Jacob Reynolds replaced by Gareth Bricknell, Vics had chances including a Scott Jones volley, and Harrison Yates free kick. However, with Raff Boyd-Kerr sin-binned, the Islanders were unable to score and take the match to penalties. Elliott Wheeler was named as player of the match.

Fixtures

This weekend, in the Hants Trophy, Vectis visit Ringwood.

Division One sees Bembridge at home to West Wight, Brading welcome Shanklin, and W&B face Osborne Coburg.

Division Two’s Newport Res are home to neighbours Pan Community, Niton welcome East Cowes Sports, and Oakfield entertain Newchurch.

In Combination One, East Cowes Sports Res are home to Binstead COB Res, High Park Res entertain leaders West Wight Res, Northwood Res host Binstead COB Res, and Osborne Coburg Res face W&B Res.

In Combination Two, leaders Osborne Coburg A are home to Vectis Res, Bembridge A host West Wight A, High Park A welcome Sandown & Lake A, Newchurch Res entertain Niton Res, and Ryde Saints Res are home to Oakfield Res.

In Wessex, Cowes welcome AFC Stoneham in the Premier Division, Vics travel to Alresford and Newport are home to Amesbury Town in Division One.

On Sunday, Shanklin Ladies are home to Alton in the semi-final of the Invitation Cup.
