I have had the immense pleasure of living a life filled with diverse passions and pursuits. As a general practitioner for many years, I’ve dedicated myself to the health and wellbeing of the local community. But my journey does not stop at medicine; I’m also the director of Cosmedica Clinics, an aesthetic clinic and private medical services provider.
Beyond the realm of healthcare, music has been a constant source of joy and inspiration in my life. I am proud to be part of Wight Hot Pipes, the well-known Island Celtic rock band that has had the incredible opportunity to perform at iconic venues, including Glastonbury and even in New York. Another highlight of my musical career was when the band headlined the biggest steampunk festival in Europe, in Lincoln last year. What an experience it was! The energy, creativity, and passion of the steampunk community left an indelible mark on my heart. And we are privileged to have been asked back again this year to headline once again and to perform within the grounds of Lincoln Castle at the heart of the Steampunk Festival.
My wife, Vicky, is an advanced nurse practitioner and my steadfast partner in both our professional and personal lives. Together, we’ve embarked on numerous charity events, such as the Medina Tattoo and Island Highland Gathering. These gatherings not only raise funds for deserving causes but also foster a sense of community, bringing people together to celebrate art, culture, and the spirit of giving. I can’t express enough how fortunate I am to have Vicky by my side, providing unwavering support and encouragement in everything we do.
After our recent success at the Lincoln steampunk festival, I felt inspired to bring a taste of that vibrant culture to the Isle of Wight, specifically to the town of Ryde, which is steeped in Victorian history. I have planned a free family fun-day, filled with top hats, corsets, and all the whimsical trappings of steampunk fashion, set against the backdrop of Ryde’s beautiful Eastern Gardens.
This event promises to be a delightful celebration of creativity and community spirit, and I can’t wait to see it come to life.
To further enrich the weekend, I’ve organised a special series of concerts at local venues in Ryde, showcasing some diverse and incredible national and international bands and entertainers. Wight Hot Pipes will be headlining the festivities, bringing our signature blend of Celtic rock to the stage, not forgetting the excitement of seeing the bagpipes on fire!
Music has a unique power to unite people, and I believe this event will create lasting memories for all who attend. My wife, friends, and colleagues inspire me daily to continue creating events and entertainment that uplift our community while supporting local charities and businesses. Each event we organise is not just about raising funds; it’s about creating connections and fostering a sense of belonging among the residents of the Isle of Wight.
As I embark on this new venture, I am filled with excitement and anticipation. I truly believe that bringing steampunk culture to Ryde can create a unique blend of history, creativity, and community engagement.
Together, we can celebrate the quirks and charms of our town while making a positive impact on the lives of those around us.
So, whether you’re a fan of steampunk, music, or just looking for a fantastic day out with the family, I invite you to join us, in Ryde, for what promises to be an unforgettable celebration. Let’s come together to create something truly special, embracing the joy of community, culture, and creativity.
