Stoic Seaview secure solid season starter in football

Island clubs continue to recover from Storm Bert and midweek downpours, with players and officials marking the end of “Movember”.

Dogged and determined Seaview are celebrating their first point of the season, and Osborne’s Jack Davies (5) and ECS’s Josh Richardson (4) are on scoring sprees. Newport was the only Wessex side to secure a point, and Shanklin Ladies maintained second spot.

Island Divisions One and Two

In Division One, Bembridge lost 3-1 at home to Northwood, with Tom Sleight breaking away to score for the visitors after 10 minutes.

Aarun Ince added a second before the break, and Connor Mooney made sure of the points in the last 15 minutes of the match.

West Wight won 6-1 away to Cowes Res, with 2 goals apiece for Blake Reeves and sub, Chris Elliott, and 1 each for Aiden Jones and Josh Daley.

Vectis, recovered from a goal down, won 5-1 at home to Binstead COB, with 2 goals from player-of-the-match Sam Kirby, and 1 apiece for Josef Shaw, skipper, Chris Turner, and Mark Goodwin’s penalty, after Binstead’s Luis Perfect gave the visitors an early lead.

In Division Two, Newchurch won 2-0 at home to Ryde Saints, with veteran striker, Keith Rust, and Aaron Doncaster on target for ‘Church. Player-of-the-match David Dunne inspired Seaview claimed their first point of the season in the 2-2 draw away at Niton, with a 30-yard rocket from Brandon Smith, and yellow-carded James Crofts giving Seaview the early lead. Josh Edgerton and Fred Fairman secured a point for Niton.

Four-goal Josh Richardson helped East Cowes Sports win 9-1 at home to Newport Res, with Andy Ebbs, Shaun Gulliver, George Terry and Macauley Barnes (2) completing the scoring for the second-placed club.

Island Combination and Cups

In the Junior A Cup, two Josh Gwilliam goals saw Whitecroft & Barton Res win 2-1 at home to Sandown & Lake Res.

High Park Res won 3-1 at home to Brading Res, with goals from Nathan Holton, Billy Haylor and Alex Harvey.

West Wight Res progress to the next round after winning 3-1 at home to High Park Res, with Ben Winton and George Saunders (2) on target for West Wight, and Joe Jackman getting the consolation goal for the visitors.

In Combination One, Shanklin Res won 8-0 at home to Bembridge Res, with goals from Chandler Builth, youthful defenders, Ollie Fleming, and Ben Gregory, Ryan Hill, Josh Field, Kyle Drew and 2 from Fraser Lloyd, including a cheeky chip over the Bembridge keeper.

In Combination Two, leaders, Osborne Coburg A, won 10-3 away at Bembridge A, with 5 goals for Osborne’s Jack Davies, 2 for Jason Pengelly, with Harry Green and sub, Jesuojie Abhulimhen-Iyoha, adding to the scoreline. Bembridge’s Tyler Randle netted a consolation hat-trick.

Sandown & Lake A won a sparky contest 5-0 at home to Niton Res, with players booked from both sides. Two goals from Ethan Dicker, and 1 each from Eddie Johnson, Jimmy Golding and Dan Worboyes, secured the points for third-placed Sandown.

Wessex Leagues

Premier League Cowes lost 8-0 away at Hamworthy Recreation.

In Division One, East Cowes lost 4-1 away at Frimley Green, with Elliot Wheeler on target for the Islanders.

Newport, fresh from their midweek draw against Clanfield, drew 2-2 away at Fleetlands, with Joe Butcher and Ji Nash netting for Newport.

Women’s League

Shanklin Ladies travelled to Rushmoor Community Women’s 1st XI, to win 4-0 with 2 goals from Gemma Woodford, and 1 apiece for Thea Broadhead and Freya Henry.

Fixtures

This weekend’s Wessex fixtures see Cowes home to Bournemouth, EC Vics home to Totton & Eling, with Newport visiting Amesbury in Division One.

There are Hampshire Trophy matches for Island sides W&B away at Bournemouth Electric, Brading at home to Harvest, Vectis travel to Stockbridge, West Wight are home to New Milton and Bembridge visit Tadley Calleva.

In the Hampshire Vase, Newport Res face Oakfield Res, Oakfield welcome Emsworth Town, Pan host Hampton, Ryde Saints entertain Cobham Sports, with Sandown & Lake playing Bembridge Res. Brading Res visit Hayling Utd, West Wight Res travel to North Warnborough, with Sandown & Lake Res facing Eversely & California Res, Newport Res are home to Oakfield Res, and Niton Res entertain Yateley Utd B.

Ventnor entertain Shanklin in the IW Challenge Cup.

In Division One, Binstead COB welcome Northwood, with Osborne Coburg hosting Cowes Res.

In Combination One, Shanklin Res are home to Binstead COB Res, and W&B Res welcome High Park Res.

In Combination Two, Vectis Res face Osborne Coburg A, and West Wight A are home to High Park A.

On Sunday, Shanklin are home to United Services Portsmouth in Division One, and Wight Eagles welcome Winchester City Flyers in Division Two.
