St Saviour’s centenary celebrations

Oliver Bicheno and Daisy Staniforth (with medals) and the drawing competition winners

As part of the St Saviour’s Church 100th year celebrations, the end of the school year and school leavers, a Mass was celebrated in Totland last Thursday.

To mark the anniversary, shields were presented for the first time to Oliver Bicheno and Daisy Staniforth for displaying exceptional Catholic values throughout the year. They also received a certificate and medal, and the shields will now be awarded annually.

Earlier in the term, there had been a centenary drawing competition for each class, with certificates for the winners, who were Flora Brett, Isla Lewis, Freya Wibberely, Issey Pragnell, Amelie Callender and Kalina Szymanowska.

As a memento of the centenary, all children were given prayer cards on which they can write a prayer in their own words.

St Saviour’s was filled with parents and parishioners for the service, conducted by Father Stephen Vooght, who reminisced about his life and encouraged those leaving to go on to new schools to look forward to the challenges they were about to meet.
