Splashing and Dashing along Shanklin beach

Around 125 adults and children dashed and splashed their way from Shanklin Rowing Club to Yaverland Sailing Club to raise money for Aspire, Ryde, on Sunday.

The 5km (3 mile) run at low tide, offered a unique run along the hard sand with 43 groynes to negotiate, most of which were a straight run through large gaps. The remaining 14 were splashed around, with the water mostly ankle deep.

Karen Eeles, Aspire’s fund-raising manager, said: “The sun shone for us, with Shanklin Rowing Club volunteers supporting us with marshalling along the first groynes on the Shanklin beach.

“At the Shanklin end, we had Ryde Lions as well as Aspire volunteers, with Yaverland Sailing Club providing us with a great finish on the beach.”

The fun run was won by Stuart McDonald for the second year with more than £1,000 raised for Aspire.
